I'm in Love with a Church Girl is a 2013 Christian drama film, directed by Steve Race. It stars Jeff 'Ja Rule' Atkins, Adrienne Bailon, Stephen Baldwin, Vincent Pastore, Toby Mac, T-Bone and Michael Madsen. The film was released in theaters on October 18, 2013.Miles Montego (Ja Rule) has it all - cars, boats, good looks, mansion, money, women, but more importantly, he has a past. Miles is a retired high level drug trafficker who is now completely legitimate. Even though Miles has turned over a new leaf, the DEA can't seem to let him out of their sights. Miles' only downfall is that he is extremely loyal to his circle of friends and former colleagues who are not retired from the lucrative business. Struggling to keep on the right side of the law, Miles meets the one girl of his dreams but she's not the usual type of girl that he's used to dating. Vanessa (Adrienne Bailon) is a church girl in every sense of the word. They are tested to their last ounce of faith and strength in God and each other. God continues to chip away at Miles through struggles from his past, having to live up to his reputation, feelings of unworthiness, the death of his mother, federal charges, his friends being indicted, the strain on his relationship with Vanessa, almost losing her in a near fatal car accident, and finally the spiritual breakdown and one on one with God that brings Miles to his knees.

Storyline :    

Wealthy drug dealer, Miles Montego, meets a nice Christian girl, Vanessa Leon, at a mutual friend's house, and the two hit it off and start a relationship. Miles tells Vanessa that he used to be a drug dealer but now wants to change his life. At first she is reluctant but accepts it assuming that he will start having faith in God, but unknown to Miles a few DEA agents are watching him and his friends and plan on taking them down. Miles' mother dies from an illness and he proposes to Vanessa on an airplane. After a car accident, Vanessa enters a coma. As he waits in the hospital, Miles starts to restore his faith in God, praying to him to make Vanessa wake up and saying that she shouldn't have to pay for his sins. Vanessa recovers and the two marry. He writes to his friends who are now in jail and tells them that he misses them. He also sends them Bibles and tells them that they better stay out of trouble since they're going to be uncles. Three years later it shows Vanessa, her family, Miles' dad, and their daughter in church where Miles is now the pastor.

User Review :

As a Christian this movie horrifies me. Vanessa is basically Miles' counselor, and whenever they have conversations she has this "all-knowing" look as if she already knows the answers to the questions that he's asking and she's so much better than him. The actors are really bad at subtle emotion, and I feel as though this movie was highly unprofessionally made and produced - i.e, all of the aerial shots of the scenery and buildings. Do we really need a bird's-eye view of every scene? Also, the plot was confusing in the fact that the movie starts off with Miles being an active drug dealer and then immediately moving two years later to when he is supposedly a concert manager. There was no warning and the jump was without transitions. The music was too loud at some points in the way that it was less subtle than it could have been. Yes, we know this is a dramatic scene, but we don't need emotional classical music blasting through the speakers. Vanessa is a very skin-deep character and there is no chemistry between Miles and Vanessa. It seemed artificial when Vanessa didn't question Miles' million-dollar home and multiple cars, and was shocked when he tries to stop the fight in the parking lot with the others. Like, yes, he was a drug dealer, obviously his past hasn't completely disappeared. Sorry that this is long, but definitely don't take the time to see this


Synopsis for :   

I'm in Love with a Church Girl (Molina, 2013) is based on a true story about the writer himself, Galley Molina and directed by Steve Race. The protagonist that plays Galley in the movie is Miles Montego (Jeff Atkins). Miles girlfriend was played by the beautiful Vanessa Leon (Adrienne Bailon). Early in the film Miles goes to his friend's house Nick Halston (Vincent Pastore) for a party. Nick was a former drug dealer but God saved him from the disruptive lifestyle. When Miles was at Nick's house he introduced Miles to Vanessa. Afterwards they started dating. Vanessa is a strong church going Christian. Meanwhile, they both lived two different lives. Although both Miles and Vanessa were dating, Miles was a fugitive. The Christian detective that was tracking Miles every step was Jason McDaniels (Stephen Baldwin). Indoors Miles was doing illegal things. But when he started dating Vanessa, Miles put on a persona because she was such a humbled girl. At the same time, Vanessa did not know about Miles's double life. Jason, the detective, would get confused from time to time if Miles was a fugitive or not. Nevertheless, Miles took Vanessa out to the club where Miles friends were at. When his friends brought up particular drug stories Miles would do his best to change the subject but his friends would not stop. Miles acted like he was buying them a drink but said quietly "tone it down my girl is around." Miles and Vanessa went to a restaurant that same night and he confessed he was living a double life. Vanessa was okay with it because she knows God loves any and everybody. Miles love grew towards Vanessa after being relieved that she was not worried about his lifestyle. Furthermore, Vanessa told Miles he has to come to church with her or else the relationship would not work. In the next scene, Miles does go to church and he liked what he saw. What caught his eye was Pastor Galley. He did not look like the normal pastor, while wearing jeans and a fitted cap. Miles thought he would not fit into the Christian world before going to Vanessa's church. The pastor was the writer, Galley Molina. What Galley said to Miles after the church service outside the sanctuary was that "it does not matter about the past because God can use you to share the gospel as well." Eventually he started coming to church regularly and slowly isolated from his friends. Amusingly enough, Miles mother was having health issues that were severe also Vanessa got into a car crash. Miles was filled with anger and was angry at God for making this happen. Miles opened the doors of the church, went to his knees and had some words with God. Most importantly, Miles overcame all the storms and became a Pastor. Jason finally realized Miles is a changed man after finding out he went to church on a regular bases. Lastly, Miles became a Pastor.
